fresher and more able to take care of others. She encouraged me to find ways to relax
that had nothing to do with children or housework! I agree.
After a long week, we all deserve some relaxation. We can unwind and rejuvenate in
the comfort of our own home. It may take some changes around the house (i.e.,
schedule an appointment with yourself and KEEP it, and don’t allow others to intrude).
Let’s turn your bathroom into your own private home spa:
*
For oily skin, whisk egg whites with lemon juice for a mask that will tighten pores. For
dry skin, whip or puree together avocado and coconut oil.
For sunburns, rosacea, or redness, use aloe vera.
AROMATHERAPY
The use of selected fragrant substances in lotions and inhalants in
an effort to affect mood and promote health
with yourself that cannot be broken. This is the hardest part. We
often don’t think we are worth taking time for. We are.
Turn off your phone and laptop. Any spa will tell you the same thing –
no phone calls, no texting and no twitter-ing.
Find some peaceful music. Instrumentals are best as they don’t engage
your mind. You want beautiful background music whether it is classic
or spa-type music (found on Amazon.com).
Light candles (keep away from hair) and draw a bath with warm water.
Give it an aromatherapy feel by adding scented oil to the water.
Lavender and ylang-ylang has been shown to reduce stress and
enhance sleep, so try adding a few drops to the bathwater.
Don't forget a bath pillow — you are here to relax! No reading this time.
You’ll be closing your eyes.
Before you get in the bathtub, apply a homemade face mask* to wear
while you're soaking. If you have cucumber, cut two round slices to place
over your eyes OR use cool moist tea bags (black tea). They both help
puffiness under the eyes.
Also before you get into the bathtub, brew a cup of herbal tea to enjoy
during your "treatment."
Turn out the lights and slip into the warm, scented water. Sit back,
relax and let your mind wander. Refuse to think of anything necessary,
serious or work-related. Let the music, scent and ambiance take you to
a more relaxed place. If you have very little time, try to allow at least 30
minutes soaking time.
Before you get out of the tub, use a loofah on your body, especially legs,
then once you are out, smooth on your favorite scented lotion to keep
skin soft and extend that warm, relaxed feeling.
